SUMMARY:International Observe the Moon Night (open to everyone!)
DESCRIPTION:  \nInternational Observe the Moon Night 2025 \nSaturday\, October 4\, 2025\n⏰ Time: 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM | 📍 Location: Seminole State College Sanford/Lake Mary campus \n\nOrganizers:\nCentral Florida Astronomical Society (CFAS) & Emil Buehler Planetarium \n\nJoin a global celebration of lunar observation! International Observe the Moon Night. The staff of the Emil Buehler Planetarium and members of the Central Florida Astronomical Society will facilitate a night dedicated to our own natural satellite\, the Moon. Telescopes will be set up to view the Moon\, showcasing many of the wondrous features found there including craters\, highlands\, basins\, and more! Participants will also be able to use their phones at several areas to take their own photos of the Moon. This event is FREE and completely open to everyone.\n\nThe viewing event will take place on the Seminole State College Sanford/Lake Mary campus at the central pond to the south of the E. Ann McGee Student Center. This building is on the opposite site of the parking lot from the planetarium.\nPlease see the link below for a pin in Google Maps. You are invited to park on the large parking lot adjacent to the Planetarium and walk to the central pond.\n\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/xVKCLj8FockS9Qv96\nWhat’s in store: \n\nOur volunteer astronomers will be on-site with their visual telescopes and digital astrophotography telescopes. Be ready to be dazzled by the beauty of our very own satellite!\n\nWhy October 4?\nThe event is timed when the Moon is near its first-quarter phase\, offering excellent visibility for evening observation—with shadows enhancing the contrast of the lunar surface features \nFree & Open to All\nThere’s no cost to attend—just bring your curiosity! \n\nJoin the global conversation on social media with #ObserveTheMoon\n(NASA Science).

Derek will discuss the latest James Webb Space Telescope findings and share what is to come with NASA missions like the Europa Clipper Mission.\nSpeaker Bio:\nEver since Derek could remember\, he has been looking to the stars. This constant fascination with astronomy gave him the inspiration he needed to soar through the many stellar journeys he has experienced throughout his life. While a student finishing his Physics and Technical Education degrees\, he landed a position at the Seminole State College Planetarium in Sanford\, Florida. Over much of the last decade\, his passion for teaching people about the wonders of the universe has earned him accolades and recognition from the planetarium industry\, his peers\, and the community\, such as currently serving as the Executive Secretary of the International Planetarium Society. He works hard presenting programs to both the community at large and to students of all ages. Derek also promotes science beyond the planetarium with his appearances at many other venues such as the Starry Starry Night Sky Festival\, National Park astronomy events\, libraries across the state\, serving as the observing chair of the Central Florida Astronomical Society\, and simply setting up a telescope at local venues to give the public a truly “out-of-this-world” experience. \nWhere:\nBok Tower Gardens 1151 Tower Boulevard Lake Wales\, Florida 33853 https://maps.app.goo.gl/aD8fWfPTx21j6VxW8 \nPrices are from Bok Tower’s website and are meant to apply to Bok Tower Gardens members and the public in general.\nFree for (Bok Tower Gardens) members / $20 for (Bok Tower Gardens) non-member adults\, $10 for (Bok Tower Gardens) non-member children ages 6 – 17 (includes admission)\, Free for children 5 and under\nNo Registration Required
