CFAS, as a federally registered 501(c)(3) organization, must make certain information publicly available. That information is presented here.

Introduction

The Central Florida Astronomical Society, Inc. (CFAS) is a totally volunteer organization that is dedicated to bringing astronomy to the general public while providing a friendly family oriented organization to share our love of astronomy. CFAS Activities include monthly meetings featuring guest speakers, monthly observing sessions at several sites across Central Florida, publication of a web information site (Continuously Updated), and public observing sessions when events of significant interest occur. .

In addition, CFAS holds two cookout / star party (CFAS Astrofest) for our member families and their guests at the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park.

General Meetings

General Meetings are open to the public and take place the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM at the Seminole State College Planetarium or The Seminole State Student Center Multipurpose room. The general meeting includes reports from the officers and committees, followed by a brief period of announcements.  This is followed by short presentations on Astrophoto of the Month, Constellation of the Month, Astronomy Web site of the Month, Astronomy Book of the Month, and What’s New in Astronomy.  After a refreshment break, we then present our speaker or program lasting about an hour.

Board Meetings

Board Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at Perkins Restaurant in Winter Park at 6425 University Blvd, Winter Park FL 32792.

Observing Activities

CFAS holds observing sessions for members at several sites, including the Ocala Observing Site, Harmony, Kissimmee Prairie Preserve, Chiefland Astronomy Village, and various sites in the metro Orlando area, such as the local airports. Many of these observing activities throughout the year are ad hoc and unofficial, although organized by CFAS members, and depend upon local weather conditions.
